Brazilian tennis player Luís Augusto Queiroz Miguel, known as Guto Miguel, won the boys' junior singles title at Roland Garros on Saturday, June 6, becoming the first Brazilian to take that crown in Paris.

The 17-year-old beat American Michael Antonius 6-3, 6-4 in the final. The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes.

Born in Goianésia, a Goiás town in the Brasília metropolitan region, Guto lives and trains in the Brazilian capital and currently tops the ITF junior world rankings. He dedicated the title to his coach, Kike Grangeiro, who was mourning the recent loss of his brother, Metrópoles reported.

A First Major Title

The victory gives Guto his first Grand Slam title at junior level. He had previously reached the semifinals of the boys' junior draw at the 2025 US Open, but Roland Garros marks his first title at one of tennis's four major tournaments.

Gazeta do Povo reported that Guto entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed. He was listed as No. 4 in the world junior ranking before the event and was expected to move to the top of that ranking after the French tournament, citing the Brazilian sports outlet Olimpíada Todo Dia.

His route to the final included wins over Japan's Hyu Kawanishi, American Ryan Cozad, Peru's Nicolas Baena and Austria's Thilo Baermann. In the semifinal, he faced another Brazilian, Leonardo Storck, creating an all-Brazilian match one round before the title.

Brazil's Junior Record

Guto also played in the boys' junior doubles draw alongside Slovenia's Ziga Sesko. The pair reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated.

According to Gazeta do Povo, citing Olimpíada Todo Dia, Guto became the fourth Brazilian to win a junior singles title at a Grand Slam. The previous Brazilian champions were Thiago Fernandes at the 2010 Australian Open, Thiago Seyboth Wild at the 2018 US Open and João Fonseca at the 2023 US Open.

The result adds to a period of visibility for Brazilian tennis at Roland Garros. Gazeta do Povo reported that Fonseca, now competing professionally, also drew attention at this year's tournament after wins over Serbian player Novak Djokovic, ranked No. 3 in the world, and Norway's Casper Ruud, ranked No. 16, before losing in the quarterfinals.

Brazil also had results in other draws in Paris. Victoria Barros reached the semifinals of the girls' junior singles draw, while Luísa Stefani, an Olympic medalist for Brazil, reached the semifinals of the women's doubles with Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski before losing to the No. 1 seeds.

For Guto, the Roland Garros title places him among the most successful Brazilian juniors in Grand Slam history. It also gives Brazil a rare boys' singles trophy at the French Open, a clay-court tournament with particular significance for a country that has long produced many of its strongest tennis results on clay.
