Brazil’s Ministry of Education will begin calling students on the waiting list for the second-semester 2026 round of the Student Financing Fund, known as Fies, on Friday, August 7.

Fies is a federal program that helps students finance places at private higher-education institutions. The ministry has not announced the time when the results will be released. Applicants should check the Portal Único de Acesso, the government platform used to manage the program.

Registration Deadline

The waiting-list calls will continue through September 24. The process covers applicants who were not selected in the regular round, whose results were published on July 30.

Students who receive an offer must complete their information through the Fies Seleção system. The required documents include identification, proof of residence, evidence of educational attainment and income documentation.

Applicants must complete this stage within three days of the date on which they are called. Because calls may be issued over an extended period, each candidate’s deadline will depend on the date of that individual notification.

Program’s Scale

For the second semester of 2026, Fies made 75,500 places available across 1,274 private higher-education institutions. The places cover 28,741 courses and different study shifts, according to CNN Brasil.

The waiting-list process is used to fill places that remain available after the regular selection round. Students who do not monitor the portal or miss the three-day deadline risk losing the opportunity to complete their enrollment.

This article is based on single-source reporting from CNN Brasil. The ministry had not disclosed the precise release time for the results in the information available for this report.
